Thomas Martin Chupp Obituary

Dr. Thomas M. Chupp Jr., 88, of Suwanee, GA, passed away on September 30, 2023. Born on May 1, 1935, in Rockmart, Georgia, Tommy was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Tommy, was a devout Christian who lived his life in the service of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was both an avid student of the Bible and discussed the Word anytime the opportunity arose, often reminding those he met to “Keep Looking Up” in both the good times and the bad. Tommy earned several theological and ministry degrees. He served as a Christian school administrator, Sunday School teacher, and church musician.

Tommy had a high respect for education. In addition to his theological degrees, he also earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Southern College of Pharmacy (Emory) and was a licensed pharmacist in Georgia and Tennessee. “Dr. Tommy,” never met a stranger and loved to share his old time natural remedies with anyone who needed help, from long-time patients to new friends.

Tommy could always be found with a book in his hand, and as much as he read, he wrote. He was known by friends and family for composing and gifting numerous writings and he even wrote two books during his life.

As studious as he was, he was equally as creative, talented, and funny, and loved to write about nature, family, and God.  As a former Atlanta Boy Choir member, Tommy was known for his beautiful tenor voice and an uncanny ability to harmonize with any song, especially Donna’s beautiful soprano melodies.

He loved America and traveling with his loved ones to new places within it and that always included loooooong road trips. No distance was too far for Tommy, not even the roundtrip drive from Georgia to Western Canada for their 50th wedding anniversary. Throughout the years, these memorable trips were full of storytelling, family sing-a-longs, interesting motels, and LOTS of peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

Tommy found solace in hiking the Appalachian Trail and fly fishing on the Chattahoochee River, connecting with nature and enjoying the peacefulness and challenge it provided. He was incredible at tying flies, using old food and gum wrappers and other unexpected materials to craft magnificent bug-like creations. Where most fishermen like to hide their favorite fishing spots or flies, Tommy was famous on the river for the exact opposite.…….. giving both away.

The love of his life was Donna, married for 67 years, deeply and eternally in love with each other. They spent their years together working hard, serving the Lord, raising a family, planning their next big adventure with family and friends, caring for their parents, and taking care of those around them. They were true servants of the Lord and their marriage is a testament of everlasting love, sacrifice, and ultimate devotion.

Tommy will be deeply missed by his surviving loved ones, including wife, Donna Campbell Chupp, daughters Cindy Chupp Hall and Denise Chupp Mullins, sons-in-law Carl Hall and Pat Ashcraft, brothers and spouses Ted and Jane, Don, and Terry and Mary Lee, grandchildren Courtney and Cayla Hall, Kirstin and Thomas Mullins, and loving nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents Ludie and Martin Chupp, parents-in-law George and Nell Campbell and Ruth Campbell, son-in-law Clint Mullins, sisters-in-law Mary Chupp and Gloria Chupp, and nephew, Donny Chupp.
