Margaret Sackett Obituary

Margaret Ann Sackett, born May 24, 1932, daughter of the late Margaret Carey Sackett and William Lloyd Sackett, passed away at the Hearth in Glastonbury, CT on September 30, 2023. Besides her parents, Peg was predeceased by her sister Marian, and leaves behind her sisters Marjorie Abbott and Ann Irving, as well as many nieces and nephews. Peg grew up in Hartford and was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy and St. Joseph College in West Hartford, CT. After her college graduation, Peg entered the convent and was a Sister of Mercy for 17 years, known as Sister Marie Jeanne d’Arc. She taught English and art at 5 different Catholic high schools. Peg received her Master’s degree from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. Being in the convent was a huge part of who Peg was and she made many lasting and fulfilling friendships there.

After leaving the convent in the 1970’s, Peg moved to Florida and managed a graphic design unit for EDG Graphic Design for 3 years. Additionally she worked as a substitute teacher and for a well known architect, Nils Schweizer.

The last phase of her work life was founding and running Sackett Convention Services, a destination management service of which she was very proud. Peg organized and directed activities for spouses and children of convention attendees. After closing her business, Peg moved back to the Hartford area.

Peg was a voracious reader and had a large vocabulary which she liked to use. She was known to enjoy using an obscure word in conversation. She kept up with current events through watching news channels, particularly MSNBC and CNN.

Peg truly enjoyed expressing herself creatively, using her calligraphy skills and color sense to create lovely signs, birthday cards and posters for special occasions. Many of these are displayed at the Hearth.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday October 6th, 10:30 am in St. Paul’s Church of SS. Isidore and Maria Parish at 2577 Main St., Glastonbury, CT. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, 8403 Colesville Rd. Suite 400, Silver Springs, MD 20910.

The family sincerely appreciates all those who assisted and brought comfort to Peg in recent years, especially Lisa, Carole, Tina, Jess and Jill.
