Margaret (Maggie J) Austin Obituary

Jesse McGee was giving his 4 year old great granddaughter a boost up onto the saddle of his old horse Nellie and grandma hollered, “Jesse, you are going to kill that baby”. And he hollered back, “but mama, she wants to ride”.

And ride she did for the rest of her life!

True story as told by that 4 year old, Maggie McKinlay.

Margaret (Maggie J) Austin, born May 18, 1940 to Bethal and William H McKinlay in Portland, Oregon. Passed on September 20, 2023 in her home at Crooked River Ranch.

Maggie graduated with honors from Franklin High School in 1958.

She married at age 18 to Dick Duggan (deceased), resulting in 3 children, Richard William (deceased), Nancy Beth Fast and Scott David. Followed by 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Maggie married Richard Austin 12/19/1987 and remained happily wed to her death.

Maggie was a proficient artist all her life, gaining many awards for her work.

Other activities include bowling league for 10 years, Riders of the Cascades Saddle Club and pool league for 23 years. As well as many other interests and hobbies.

Maggie especially loved animals. At age 12 she broke and trained her own horse at her grandparents farm in Fruitland Idaho, where she spent every summer until age 16.

Everyone enjoyed her offbeat sense of humor, it got her into trouble a few times. Nobody enjoyed a semi-dirty joke more than she did.

She will be greatly missed.
