Evelyn Ann James Obituary

Evelyn Anderson James, 87, passed away at North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora on Saturday, September 9, 2023. Born April 13, 1936, in Big Creek, she was the daughter of the late William Anderson and the late Lorene McNulty Anderson. Evelyn was a 1954 graduate of Big Creek School, and was a life-long member of Big Creek Baptist Church. Evelyn loved her church and her church family. She taught Sunday school for many years, as well as bible school, and helped in any way she could. On January 21, 1955, she married Donald Kent James, and they were able to spend over 59 wonderful years together until his passing in 2014. After high school, Evelyn did attend the Mississippi University for Women (The W) in Columbus for a semester, but decided to come home and help with the family farm. She spent her life as a homemaker, taking care of her family. She would take meals out to the fields, and she was there for her children throughout their life. The ones who were close to her knew how much she loved to work in her garden and tend to her flowers. They also know the love she had for her children and grandchildren, the greatest joys of her life. Evelyn was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her family and friends will miss her dearly, but her memory will be cherished forever in their hearts.

A Funeral Service celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at 3:00pm at Bradford Chapel Baptist Church. There will also be Visitation on Tuesday from 1:00pm until service time at Bradford Chapel Baptist Church. Bro. Chris Conlee will be officiating, with interment to follow at Bradford Chapel Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Phillip James, Joe Hays, Zach Hays, Dan James, and Steve Swindoll.

She leaves behind her son Phillip James and his wife Melissa of Washington, MO; daughter, Angela Hays and her husband Joe of Walthall; sister Carolyn Swindoll of Natchez; 3 grandchildren, Zach Hays and his wife Tara, Anna James Younge and her husband Blade, and Parker James; and 2 great grandchildren Karley James Hays and Presley Anne James.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lorene Anderson, and her husband of 59 years, Donald Kent James.
