Stephen P. Johnson, 81, died following a long illness, August 31, 2023, at Orono Commons. He was born December 3, 1941, at Cary Memorial Hospital in Caribou, the son of Carl P. and Arlene E. (Porter) Johnson.

Stephen’s formative years were lived at Hilltop Acres in Woodland. His education journey began at the one room Pratt School (4 ½ yrs) graduating in 1955 from Woodland Consolidated. He graduated from Caribou High School, Class of 1959 and the University of Maine in Orono, Class of 1966. Stephen’s first job was Manager of the Agway store in Island Falls. Other employment included Ohmart and Hinkley Pharmacy, Seven Islands Land Company, Byron H. Smith, Eaton Peabody concluding with Stephen’s retirement from Miller Drug in 1999. Stephen’s devotion to God was evident throughout his adult life including Sunday school teacher, youth group advisor, and sound system operator. He was a very active member of Brewer First Methodist Church and later a member of Columbia Street Baptist Church. He was founder and co-leader of Central Christian Fellowship. Stephen was also founder and 1st President of Ostomy Association of Eastern Maine from 1972-2002. His life interests included sports (especially the Red Sox), music, animals, and lighthouses.

Surviving Stephen, are two brothers, Rodric C. Johnson of Milford and Bruce H. Johnson and his wife, Jean, of White Haven, PA, a nephew, David Johnson and wife, Denelle, of Red Bank, NJ, a niece, Lisa (Johnson) Decowski and husband, Eric, of Alapaha, GA, and grandnephew, Alan Decowski, of Chandler, AZ.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call 12:00 PM Monday, September 11, 2023, at Brookings-Smith, 55 S Main St., Brewer, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM. The Reverend Dr. Terry Phillips will be officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer. Those who wish to remember Stephen in a special way may make gifts in his memory to Joni and Friends, 30009 Ladyface Ct. Agoura Hills, California 91301.

Stephen’s life verse: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6.
