Sam Willis Colerider Obituary

Mt. Pleasant

Mr. Sam W. Colerider III died peacefully from Alzheimer’s Disease at Woodhaven Court in Albemarle

N.C. Saturday, August 26, 2023.

He was born in Concord NC but was a resident of Mount Pleasant N.C. for over 50 years. He was well known by many as the man who lived in the big old white house in the middle of town with his loving wife Barbara Colerider.

Sam graduated from Concord High School and then earned his bachelor’s degree from Presbyterian College in Clinton SC with honors. In college he was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity. He spent the rest of his life as an independent sales representative for the automotive upholstery industry. He covered a large territory encompassing North Carolina, Virginia, Eastern Tennessee, South Carolina, and Georgia. Sam loved his work and being on the road during the week, but especially coming home on the weekends to his wife. He loved history and especially Civil War era history. He was part of the Eastern Cabarrus Historical Society Museum where he has a room dedicated with much of his artifacts that he donated. Sam loved giving tours of his historical home that was built in 1858 and would never run out of new stories, even if it was the 5th time you toured it. He also loved old cars and fishing. He would frequent a small lake on family farmland just 5 minutes outside Mount Pleasant to cast a line and bring home some fish for dinner. Sam loved the small-town atmosphere of Mount Pleasant and the people there. He was passionate about what he believed in and stuck by his principles. He really had a big heart and loved telling stories and being the center of attention, especially if you laughed at his jokes. Sam had a big personality and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents Sam W. Colerider Jr. and Beatrice (Bea) Colerider. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara Colerider; his son Sam Wesley (Wes) Colerider; step daughter Susie Russell; sisters Bebe Gray and Linda Grist; Brother David Colerider; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Woodhaven Court of Albemarle and Stanley County hospice for all the love and care you provided.
