Obituary

Bethany Lyons Mauger Lucas, age 44, died at home in Lynn Haven, FL, on August 20, 2023. She was born September 6, 1978, in State College, PA, the daughter of Joanna Lyons (Zion, PA) and Scott Mauger (Bellefonte, PA), who survive.

She also is survived by her husband of 26 years, David A Lucas, Jr., son Jacob, and daughter Emma, of Lynn Haven, FL, as well as her brothers, Michael Mauger (Dana) of Encinitas, CA, and Wes Mauger (Christina and nephew Robert) of Mechanicsville, MD, and aunts and uncles in PA.

Bethany was a 1996 graduate of Bellefonte (PA) Area High School and of the Nurse Assistant Program at Central PA Institute of Technology. She was an employee of the Bay County School District, working as an aide at Merritt Brown Middle School, a student support team member at Mosley High School, and most recently as a substitute teacher for the high school. She loved her students, fellow staff, and faculty members, and, with her husband, supported girls’ athletics. In 2019, she was named Support Employee of the year for Bay County School District and went on to be awarded the honor for the state of Florida by the FL Department of Education.

Bethany’s greatest love and joy were her family. She was devoted to her family. She was the glue in this Air Force family that kept them tight knit through stations in Mississippi, Germany, Maryland, and Florida. She was proud of her husband’s military career, her son’s employment at Winn-Dixie, and her daughter’s studies at Troy University, Alabama.

Beth was an ardent Ravens Fan, cat lover, fervent supporter of the military, and took great pride in her meticulously kept home. Her weakness was sneakers, of which she had a vast collection, matching every outfit. No matter what she wore, her hair and makeup were done, always had on some sparkly jewelry, and carried a trendy purse. Bethany was a beautiful woman, inside and out.

Beth’s sense of humor and big heart extended beyond her family to the many friends from high school, military bases, and the school district. She was always willing to help anyone, anytime, anywhere, and she loved to bake cookies for many occasions or no occasion at all. She could always be counted on for a witty remark and good-natured bantering. She loved so many and they loved her right back.

Her short life was full and her shining light will be sorely missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donors choice.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 10am, at the St. John’s Episcopal Church, on the corner of N. Allegheny St. and W. Lamb St. in Bellefonte, with Deacon Alex Dyakiw officiating. In Beth’s honor, her family has requested guests to dress casually and comfortably wearing their favorite pair of sneakers.
