David Wooten Obituary

Vardaman---William David Wooten, 53, passed away at his home in Vardaman on Wednesday, August 16, 2023. Born December 4, 1969, in Nashville, he was the son of the late Billy Joe Wooten and the late Ann Gillespie Wooten. David was a 1987 graduate of Vardaman High School, and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. David has always been a hard worker. In his younger days, he worked for Charles Lee McGreger laying brick. He moved on to Franklin Manufacturing in Houston, but fate stepped in and an opportunity in funeral service came along. He enrolled in mortuary school, and received his Degree in 1999. He began working at Pryor Funeral Home, and has a combined total of 17 years of service. Anyone who knew David knew he had a huge heart and loved helping people. As a Funeral Director, his compassion and caring guidance helped so many grieving families find some comfort and peace through a hard time. He was just so genuine, and his smile would just make you feel like everything was going to be okay. Hands down, he was simply the Best!

When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and just hanging out with his friends. He loved his family, and was so proud when his granddaughter, Anne Collins came along. He cherished her and would visit her at every opportunity. His untimely passing has left us all heartbroken. He will be missed deeply by his family and friends, but David has touched so many lives in our community that his legacy will live on in our hearts and minds forever.

Pryor Funeral Home has the honor of serving David’s family.

A Funeral Service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 3:00pm at Pryor Funeral Home. There will also be Visitation on Saturday from 1:00pm until service time at the funeral home. Bro. Jim Vance will be officiating, with interment to follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Woodland.

Serving as pallbearers will be Anthony Stroup, Doug James, Martin Fugett, Bobby Joe Wooten, Davin Parker, and John Scott Edmondson.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the countless number of David’s friends which would be impossible to list.

He leaves behind his daughters, Ashley Morgan and her husband T.J., and Sarah Wooten, both of Vardaman; brother, Charles Wooten and his wife Gail of Houston; granddaughter, Anne Collins Morgan; niece, Kaleigh (Gaston) Ivy; and nephew, Scott (Kari) Gann.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Billy Joe and Ann Wooten; and grandparents, Josie and Oscar Wooten, and Margaret and David Gillespie.
