Funeral services for Hazel Edna Jones Lewis 89, of Chandler have been scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Wednesday January 3, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Chandler with Rev. Bryan Harkness officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park, Athens. Mrs. Lewis passed away December 31, 2017 in Tyler. She was born July 23, 1928 in Athens to the late Harry Marshall and Icy Oline Daniel Jones. Hazel was raised in Grapeland and Athens. She graduated from Grapeland High School. She was employed several years at Lonestar Gas in Athens and Athens Independent School District and was involved in the Buisness and Professional Women’s Club and Athens Garden Club. She later moved to Austin where she was employed with the State of Texas. After several years she returned to Athens and worked for the Henderson County Sheriff’s Department until retirement. After retirement she moved to Chandler to be closer to her daughter and granddaughter and lived there for over 20 years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chandler. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed baking for her family and close friends in town. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister; Patricia “Sarge” Gibbs, brother; John W. “Bady” Jones. Survivors include her daughter Lynne Staines, granddaughter; Emily Staines, nieces; Becky Pierson and Debby Lewis, nephews; Gary Gibbs, David Jones, Steven Jones and Robert Jones and numerous great nieces and nephews, and caregiver Mary Herring. Pallbearers will Steve Staines, Sean Little, Jonathon Little, Keith Carpenter, Mike Sheeley, Dan Frantz and John Warren. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill McHam, Jay Mills, Gary Gibbs and great nephews. Visitation for family and friends will be held at First United Methodist Church in Chandler from 1-2 P.M. prior to the service on Wednesday.
