<p>TROY – Nicholas F. Bragin passed from this life on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at the age of 81. </p><p><br></p><p>Born in Troy on November 1, 1941 into the loving family of William and Helen (Cavanaugh) Bragin, Nicholas was raised in Port Schuyler where he was educated in the former St. Brigid’s School and later graduated from Watervliet High School. He served in the Army National Guard for six years. Nicholas was employed by the New York State Banking Department in Albany for ten years and for thirty years by the United States Postal Service in Watervliet from where he retired in 1998. He loved dogs, gardening, grilling, listening to 50’ &amp; 60’s music, vacationing in Maine and Lake George, reminiscing about the good old times and entertaining family and friends. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks for 59 years, initially in Watervliet Lodge #1500 and later transferring to Brunswick Lodge #2556where he had been a member for the past 30 years. </p><p><br></p><p>Nicholas’ family extends their heartfelt thanks to the caring and dedicated nurses and doctors in both the Progressive and Intensive Care Units of Samaritan Hospital in Troy as well as the Eddy Visiting Nurse Association.</p><p><br></p><p>Nicholas was the loving husband for 56 years of Dorothy Jean (Gillie) Bragin; the much loved father of infant son Nicholas F. Bragin, Jr. (deceased) and Dawn Marie Jones (husband Spencer) of Pittsford, NY; cherished grandfather of Spencer David Jones, II of Arundel, ME and Abigail Kerry Jones of Pittsford, NY; dear brother of Eileen Gurak (husband Carl-deceased) of Loudonville, NY and William Bragin (wife Nancy) of Mechanicville, NY as well as two cousins and several nieces and nephews and his dog Molly and his cat Hobie.</p><p><br></p><p>A funeral Mass for Nicholas will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 am in Our Lady of Victory Church, 55 North Lake Avenue, Troy and the Rite of Committal will follow in the Gardner Earl Memorial Chapel at Oakwood Cemetery, Troy. A gathering, celebrating his life, will follow at the Brunswick Lodge of Elks #2556, 665 Brunswick Road, Troy, NY. Friends are invited to attend and may also visit with Nicholas’ family on Friday from 4 until 7 pm at the Cummings Funeral Home, 643 Third Avenue, Watervliet, NY. Members of the Brunswick Lodge of Elks will gather at the funeral home on Friday at 6:15 pm and conduct the wake service at 6:30 pm. </p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions may be made iin his name to the Eagle Mills Fire Department, 627 Brunswick Road, Troy, NY 12180, Hudson Mohawk Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12144 or the Eddy Visiting Nurse Association, 433 River Street, Troy, NY 12180 </p><p><br></p>
