Ruth N. Thompson Obituary

RUTH N. (FOWLER) THOMPSON, 92 of Belfast, left this earth very unexpectedly on May 23, 2023 to be reunited with her husband, Clayton, and to meet her Lord and Saviour face to face.

Ruth was born December 22, 1930 in New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Gerald W. and Iva (Prosser) Fowler.

Ruth's family moved to Thorndike, Maine in 1936. She attended and graduated Freedom Academy in Freedom. She married the love of her life, Clayton Thompson, in 1949. They bought a farm in Knox and raised chickens. In 1950 they had their first son, Mark S. Thompson. Dennis C. Thompson followed in 1953. Barry W. Thompson arrived in 1957. In addition to her sons, Ruth and Clayton had 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Ruth was delighted with her role as wife and mother to 3 rambunctious boys. She was a very outgoing person who loved her family deeply and loved people in general. She could make friends with a stranger while shopping and learn their whole history in 15 minutes.

Ruth was a fantastic cook even winning Blue Ribbons at the fair. She was a wonderful homemaker and a very hard worker. She taught Sunday school and worked with the youth at Knox Ridge Baptist Church where the family faithfully attended and worshipped the Lord.

Ruth was always full of fun and ready for an adventure. Whether it was picking berries or apples on Frye Mountain, canning and freezing her produce or going camping, fishing, cross-country skiing, sledding, snowmobiling, swimming, playing ball or simply playing a board game, she was ready. Going to lawn sales or finding a great bargain brought her a special delight.

When Clayton's health declined, she dedicated herself to giving him the best possible care and was determined to give him better care than a nursing home. And she did.

Services will be held 11 a.m. June 23 at Riposta Funeral Home. Those who wish may make donations to Bayshore Baptist Church, PO Box 66, Lincolnville, ME 04849 in Ruth's memory. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.ripostafh.com.
