Joseph Maria P.P. Nobel Obituary

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Nobel in Lacombe Alberta.   Joe, as friends and family called him, was born in Reeuwijk Holland on November 2, 1944. He was the 9th of 12 children to his parents, Gerardus and Maria Nobel in Reeuwijk.

Joe attended the local school in Reeuwijk. He followed his father’s footsteps and took to being a baker, by studying at baker’s school in Rotterdam.

In May 1960, Joe came with his parents and sixteen other family members to Lacombe, where Joe attended high school. In his youth he did various jobs, and eventually took over Nobel’s Bakery in Forestburg from his father. He ran the family bakery from 1973 until 1980. Joe bought the house of his parents in 1992, sharing the house with his mom. He also worked at the Donut Mill in Red Deer for a period of time. He also spent numerous years working in Fort McMurray at the oil worker camps as a caterer until his retirement.  While there, he developed a friendship with Georgina, a close friendship that lasted 27 years.  He lived in his home until his passing, on May 30, 2023.

Joe was predeceased by his parents, two brothers Adrian (Saskatchewan) and Gary (Saskatchewan) and predeceased by two sisters; Rita Schrieken (Holland) and Adriana Driesen (Lacombe). He left behind a sister in Holland, a sister in Ontario, 3 sisters in Alberta, and two brothers in Alberta.

Joe liked electronic things: he will always be remembered with his CB radio “Blue Bird”.   And then he got the computer bug. He also enjoyed working on his computer, checking out news from back in Europe, making birthday cards, and so on.

He like to socialize and particularly loved to spoil young nephews and nieces. Joe’s easy-going nature and friendly demeanor will be remembered by all of those who knew him.

There will be a viewing and Prayer Service at Wilson’s Funeral Chapel (6120 Highway 2A Lacombe) Thursday, June 8 at 7:00 PM. Joe’s Funeral Mass will be at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church (5128-53rd Street Lacombe) on Friday, June 9 at 11:00 AM.

In Memory of Joe donations may be directed to the Candian Cancer Society: https://cancer.ca/en/
