Beloved husband of Kathleen C. “Kay” Hoppenrath, loving father of John (Amy) Hoppenrath of Buckeye, AZ, Margaret “Peggy” Thompson of Las Vegas, NV, Patricia (Raymond) Adamatis of Carol Stream, IL, Mary Anne (Rich) Nee of Libertyville, IL and James (Janice) Hoppenrath of Irvine, CA, adored grandfather of Blaine and Michael (Breezy) ; Christopher and Steven; Julia (Vivek), Bridget (Ben) and Michelle; McKenna and Madison, devoted son of the late Clarence W. and Mary Hoppenrath, dear brother of Barbara (the late Richard) Hall, Thomas (Doris) Hoppenrath, the late Clarence A. Hoppenrath, the late Mary (the late Robert) Westrick and the late Rita (the late Robert) Tesar, fond brother-in-law, cousin, uncle, great-uncle, great-great uncle and friend of many.

Bob was born and grew up in Brookfield, IL. He attended St. Philip's High School in Chicago (Class of 1944). His family fondly remembers the tales of Bob and his brother Clarence taking a train and 2 street cars to school every day. He was also a proud graduate of Notre Dame University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering (Class of 1948). He worked for his father's construction company as a youth where he learned carpentry skills that served him well his whole life. After college, he was employed with Barber-Greene Company in Aurora, IL from 1948-1985. Later in life, Bob worked as a radon specialist for Homebuyers Inspection Services in Naperville. He met the love of his life, Kay, through mutual friends, got married in 1956 at St. Francis Xavier Church in LaGrange, IL and raised their 5 children in Downers Grove and Naperville. Bob was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family immensely as well as a man of strong faith. He was a founding member of St. Raphael Catholic church in Naperville. He gave his time to the church as a religious education teacher, choir member, lector and so much more. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #736, and Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #400, both in Aurora, IL. Bob loved to work with his hands and put a lot of sweat equity into each family home. He built their family home's two car garage/convertible 3-season room with his own two hands one summer. After retirement, Bob and Kay moved to Carillon in Plainfield and lived the good life for 17 years enjoying that community to its fullest. He spent time in the wood shop almost every day making wonderful keepsakes for family and friends. Bob and Kay have enjoyed a long happy marriage and would have celebrated their 67th anniversary this month. He will be forever in the hearts of his family and many friends; remembered for his kindness, gentleness, honesty, and humble heart. Everybody loved Bob because Bob loved everybody.
