Patrick Michael “Mike” McAssey of Upper Eager Rd, Newfane, VT, formerly of North Smithfield, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Jody Lynn (Grimard) McAssey his life partner of thirty-two years whom he married May 23, 2007. Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late James Thomas and Mildred (MacLeod) McAssey Sr. Mike was an engineer for the Raytheon Corporation for thirty years, retiring in 2012.

Mike and Jody lived in North Smithfield for several years before moving to Vermont in 2021. There, they designed and built an award winning, positive impact, environmental home. Mike enjoyed travel far and wide with Jody. His favorite trip was his hiking pilgrimage upon the Camino de Santiago, in Portugal and Spain. Mike volunteered to alleviate food insecurity in Vermont. He also advocated for electric buses for students. Mike supported local welcoming efforts to refugees from Afghanistan. In his wood shop he crafted gifts for his family upon his lathe.

In 2012, Mike was initiated into Mankind Project, which empowers men to missions of service. He went on to hold office as the MKP, RI Coordinator and the NE Co-leader Elder. Recently, he received the Ron Hering Mission Service Award, offered by the New England Elder Council.

His family and friends will remember him as a curious man, committed to becoming a better man through his actions of unconditional love.

Besides his wife he leaves his sons Michael P. McAssey and his fiancée, Amanda Tanner and Ryan N. McAssey and his wife Stephanie, all of N. Smithfield, RI, stepsons Matthew Kucharski and his wife Nicole of Scituate, RI and Aaron Kucharski and his partner Pam Stoshak of Myrtle Beach, SC., sister Patricia E. Moore of Cumberland, sister-in-law Suzanne McAssey of N. Smithfield, grandchildren, Kayleena and Aiden Lariviere, Breanna and Nathan McAssey, Elliott and Amelia Kucharski, and Candace and Dylan Costa, four nieces and two nephews.

A Service of Remembrance will be held Monday, June 5, 2023 at 10:00 AM in the Slatersville Congregational Church, 25 Greene St. Slatersville, RI. Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery in Blackstone. Visiting hours will be held Sunday, June 4, 2023, 2-5 PM in the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 463 South Main St, Woonsocket. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ManKind Project USA, 141 North Pleasant St. PO Box 941, Amherst, MA 01004 in his memory.
