Obituary

Dennis Filmore Tubbs, 63, of Curwensville and Greensburg, PA, exhaled his final breath on Friday, May 26, 2023 while surrounded by his loving family. Dennis returned to his Creator after beating off pancreatic cancer for almost two years, nearly eighteen months beyond medical estimates. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Helena Hugney Magnuson; grandparents Allison Clair and Verna Grace Tubbs; his father, Robert Tubbs who gave him his love of fishing; and several aunts and uncles including Filmore Magnuson for whom Dennis was named and who gave Dennis his passion for woodworking.

Dennis will forever be “my Viking” to his wife Judy Rae Tubbs. He is also survived by his mother, Dr. Donna Jean Magnuson Tubbs who gave Dennis the most wonderful life of multiple adventures and travels all around the world. “Doc Tubbs” also inspired his life-long appreciation of nature and most especially the waters of Pennsylvania which resulted in his devoted work with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, his decades of service on the Three Rivers Regatta Board, his work on the Safe Boating Council, and his miraculous achievement of bringing the Bassmaster Classic to showcase the environmental growth of Pittsburgh’s waters and give millions of economic income to the city. Dennis is also survived by his sister and life-long protector, Ginny Tubbs; his childhood hiking partner and peanut butter/pickle sandwich enthusiast Brother, Robert Tubbs; his charming and lovely sister-in-law, Judy Tubbs; as well as his dear nephew, Mathew Tubbs (wife, Aimee and son, Cooper). Dennis deeply regrets leaving his most beloved jewels, his daughters; Kristi Tubbs, Sara Tubbs Acklin (partner, Alexander Alvarado), and Molly Spino with husband Michael Spino; and last but definitely not least, beloved grandsons, Milo and Mario. Along with the many prayers leading to Dennis being received into our Father’s all-encompassing love, he also ascended with the voices of his circle of Valkrye, (his mother, wife, sister, and daughters) saying the following Norse prayer:

"Lo, There do I see my Father.

Lo, There do I see my Uncles, my Aunts, and my Grandmother.

Lo, There do I see the line of my people back to the beginning.

Lo, They do call to me.

They bid me take my place among them in the halls of Valhalla.
