Zephyr Ann Henderson was born October 27, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois, to the union of Thomas Henderson and Carrie Henderson (Ashford). She was the fourth of six children and the eldest daughter.
Zephyr gave her life to Christ at an early age and was a member of Old Mozart Baptist Church, where she was an ambassador for Christ. Old Mozart transformed into First Baptist Congregational Church where Zephyr was a girl scout, girl scout leader, worked in the nursery, and sang in the women's choir.
God blessed Zephyr with one daughter, Lauren Rachel. Zephyr prided herself on family and loved being a mother and grandmother.
Upon graduating from Amundsen High School and obtaining her Bachelors Degree from MacMurray University in Jacksonville, Illinois, Zephyr went on to become Vice President of Community Bank of Lawndale on Chicago's West Side until 2006, when health issues caused her to retire early.
Outside of her professional life, Zephyr enjoyed traveling, shopping (finding the best deals), and ensuring that her daughter had remarkable memories of new opportunities and enjoying family. She was also an avid bowler, where she spent several years on bowling leagues with her nephews.
On Tuesday, May 23, 2023, Zephyr was called home. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Roger, Stanley and Thomas Jr., and her nephews Jeremy, Jaime, and Jerome.
Zephyr leaves to cherish her memories: her daughter Lauren Hilson (Larry), grandsons Zion and Micah Hilson, her sisters Jeanne Sullivan and Penelope Henderson, nephews Jarade Henderson, Jamil Marshall (Kanya) and Jonathan Henderson, niece Danielle Henderson, special sister Doris Burney, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
