Jeroma Margaret Phillippo Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of Jeroma Margaret (nee Hynes) Phillippo on May 29th, 2023, at the Western Memorial Hospital at the age of 79 years.

She leaves to mourn with many loving memories: husband Wannie; sons: Garry (Cindy) and Kevin (Barb); her grandchildren: Ainsleigh and Garret of Alberta and Craig and Kacie of Ontario; brothers: Kyran (Mary) and Brendan (Theresa); sister Collette Murray; brothers in law: Bob (Helena) Phillippo and Anthony Cole; and sisters in law: Hazel Hynes, Anne Aucoin, Mary Jesso, and Sheila Phillippo; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.

Jeroma was predeceased by: her parents Mayme and Harold Hynes; brothers: Harold “Junior”, Albert, Don (Patricia), Art, and Phil; sisters: Marie (Cyril) Taylor, Dolores Hynes, and Barbie Hynes; brothers in law: George Murray and Terry Phillippo; and sister-in-law Marie Cole.

Jeroma grew up in Port au Port East and moved to Ontario with her much-loved sister Dolores (‘Totto’). There she met the love of her life, Wannie. She stayed and raised her children in Hamilton, Ontario. She returned often to Port au Port East to visit and to retire in the early 2000’s.

Jeroma enjoyed many shenanigans and was the life of the party and centre of attention. She was highly sought after for her entertaining screech-in ceremonies. An animated storyteller full of impressions, she loved the chance to “dress up” for plays and of course, mummering.

Jeroma was active in the community and involved in many acts of service. She participated and helped with many activities at the Twilight 50+ club including quilting, curling, and painting. Many benefited from her cooking and baking skills in care packages and home-delivered meals.

Jeroma was truly one of a kind, always able to make you laugh and smile. We will cherish our memories and the moments we shared with her.

We will gather to pray and celebrate the life of Jeroma at Maria Regina Parish on Thursday, June 1st from 7-9 pm. The funeral mass will take place on Friday, June 2nd at 2pm with interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Port au Port East. A gathering will follow at the Twilight 50+ club in Port au Port East.

As expressions of sympathy, flowers are greatly appreciated or donations in Jeroma’s memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Twilight 50+ club (Port au Port East) or to a charity of one’s choice.
