George Post III Obituary

George Post, age 71, of Wilson, Wisconsin, died early Tuesday morning, May 30, 2023 at The Neighbors of Dunn County, Menomonie, Wisconsin.

Funeral for George is 2 p.m., Monday, June 5, 2023 at Calvary Assembly of God Church, Wilson, Wisconsin.

Visitation is from noon until 2 p.m. at church prior to service.

Burial is in Teegarden Cemetery, Knapp, Wisconsin.

George Otto Post III, age 71, was born on June 10, 1951 to George W Post, Jr and Emily (Pieper) Post at Baldwin Hospital in Baldwin Wi.

George grew up on the family dairy farm near Hammond, WI.  He attended school in Hammond, WI, graduating in 1969 from St. Croix Central.

On April 10, 1981, he was joined in marriage to Nona J Finder of Knapp, WI at Peace Lutheran Church Menomonie, WI. To this union, they were blessed with two children, George D Post IV of Hammond and Amanda J Post, who passed away in 2018 at the age of 35.

Following high school, he got involved in the transportation industry. One of George's first trips when he was 18 years old was a load of Christmas trees to California.  After traveling the mountains and winter road conditions, the load was safely delivered.  Not to miss an opportunity to make a family connection, he went to San Diego to visit his Uncle Harold and family.  His successful operation of a semi-tractor was directly related to his experience on the family farm. As the years went by, he found himself pulling oversized loads, such as mobile homes and sectionalized units for Mobile Transport Service of Wausau, the family business. The family business expanded into general freight and temperature-controlled products for MTS of Wisconsin LTD. George made many trips across the George Washington Bridge in NYC, onto the Bronx, Jersey Shores, out to Long Island and hundreds of other locations. George received many safe driving awards in his career in trucking at MTS of Wisconsin.

Due to his sister and her husband going on a vacation, he was talked into taking over the dispatch desk and found he liked telling drivers where to go. That started many decades of telling drivers where to go and when to deliver.  George, of course, heard every joke in the book concerning dispatchers.

In the last few years, he was the parts finder and runner for his son and nephews. He could find parts as if they were needles in a haystack. Not to mention the ability to drive a hard bargain.

When Jud and Amanda were younger, they were in 4-H.  George would be just as excited as the kids were, maybe even more, about getting their cattle, rabbits, baking and various other exhibits and projects to the fair. It was a lot of work, but he enjoyed every minute of it.  He also enjoyed gardening with Nona and the kids.  Recently, he was coaching his grandchildren about the “how-to’s” of gardening.

On November 8, 2022, George suffered a Spinal Stroke, resulting in his legs being paralyzed.  He also had several other side effects from a Chemo-drug he was taking for his blood disorder.  He had been hospitalized since November 8th with most of that time at St Mary's in Rochester Minnesota.

On May 23rd he was transferred to “The Neighbors of Dunn County” in Menomonie.  When he arrived there, he shared with me (Audrey) how beautiful the crops were.  He was happy to have made that journey. He surrendered the fight on May 30th as the band of angels had arrived to escort his soul to heaven.

George was proceeded in death by his parents, George and Emily Post, his wife Nona, daughter Amanda, brother-in-law Harvey Thomas (Audrey), sister-in-law, Judy Gerhart Post (Wiley), mother and father in law, Donald and Eileen Finder, brothers-in-law Wayne Rostamo (Shirley) and Eugene Johnson (Judy).

He leaves to mourn, son George D Post “Jud” and his wife Abbey along with grandsons

Bentley and Brooks and granddaughter Rayleigh, brother Wiley Post, sisters

Audrey Thomas Flatland (Rod), Sharolyn Post and several nephews and nieces, along with friends.
