MacARTHUR

Skip (Maynard)

July 6, 1943 - May 29, 2023

Pastor Skip (Maynard) MacArthur went home to his Lord and Saviour, in the early morning hours of May 29, 2023, after a long hard battle with cancer.  He had spent the last 3 and a half months under the care of the wonderful doctors and staff at the Drumheller Hospital.

Skip is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Lorraine; his fur babies, Ody and Bentley; his brother James Strachan (Alice) of Kamloops, his sister Pat (Stan) Bell of Stettler; his nephews Barry (Paula) Strachan of Kamloops, Shawn (Karen) Strachan of Sundre; his nieces Tara Bell of Camrose, Alicia Bell of Stony Plain; his brothers and sisters in law, Gerry and Terri Dolezsar of Prince Albert, Rick and Karen Dolezsar of Hudson Bay, and Colleen Dolezsar (Giuseppe Graziano) of Calgary and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He was predeceased by his father Frank, his mother Dorothy, and his brother Dana.

Skip was born in Melfort, Saskatchewan on July 6, 1943, to Frank and Dorothy MacArthur. He did his schooling and graduation in Pleasantdale, Saskatchewan. He started his career at the Naicam Coop and moved to Saskatoon where he was grocery manager at Saskatoon Coop.  He married Lorraine Dolezsar in 1969 and in that summer, they moved to Vancouver where he was employed by Super Value and then moved on to Kamloops where he worked for Safety Mart Grocery. He later started working as a carpenter on commercial construction jobs in Kamloops and Calgary.  After moving to Morrin in 1995, Skip worked at Freson Brothers in Drumheller in the produce department and then took a position at Hi-Way 9 as a customer service rep.  After retiring from Hi-Way 9 he went back to work for Freson Brothers as the night manager until his health deteriorated.

Skip also loved the auction business. He went to Auctioneer school in Calgary in the 1990’s and had a full career with Liquidation World in Calgary, and after he moved to Morrin, with his long time friend Bob Sinclair of Sinclair Auctions.

In the 1980’s under the mentorship of Rev. Art Berge, Skip entered the ministry with a position at Lutheran Brethren Church, Morrin, Alberta and he served this church faithfully for 33 years.  His last church service was on Christmas Eve, 2022.

We want to thank all our family and friends for the beautiful texts, phone calls, and visits to see Skip in the hospital.  He treasured each and every one of you.

A funeral service will be held at the Morrin Community Hall on Saturday, June 3, at 2pm.  Interment will be at a later date at the Pleasantdale Cemetery, Pleasantdale, Saskatchewan.

“What a mighty God we serve.”
