Terry Max Hinshaw Obituary

Terry Max Hinshaw, age 81, passed away at A Big Heart Adult Family Home, in Olympia, Washington, on May 26, 2023. He was the husband of Mary Lou (Maguire) Hinshaw for 54 years. Max was born November 2, 1941, in Winchester, Indiana, son of the late Paul and Mary (Engle) Hinshaw. He was a graduate of Lynn High School and went on to graduate from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana, in 1963. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Following his service, Max worked as a highway engineer for the Washington State Department of Transportation until his retirement.




Max enjoyed many hobbies, including photography, gardening, and woodworking. The beautiful furniture he crafted will be treasured by his family and friends for years to come. Max will be remembered as a kind and patient man, who enjoyed travel and spending time with his grandchildren.




Max is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Hinshaw; son, Kevin Hinshaw, and daughter-in-law, Malaika (Burt) Hinshaw, of Seattle, Washington; daughter, Jennifer (Hinshaw) Makepeace, and son-in-law, Charles Makepeace, of Little Compton, Rhode Island; and grandchildren, Colin Makepeace and Hazel Hinshaw. He was the brother of Shirley Smith of St. Louis, Missouri.




In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
