Joseph Silva Obituary

Joseph “Joey/Joe” Silva, 77, passed away on May 28, 2023 at home surrounded by his loved ones after long-term illness. He was the husband of his devoted wife, Carolyn E. “Tweety” Silva, to whom he was married to for 39 years.


 Born in Providence, Joey was the 1st son of the late Faustino J. “Baby” Silva and Mary L. “Mamie” (Baptista) Silva. He was a lifelong “Townie” and resident of the city of East Providence. Joseph graduated from East Providence High School in 1965. Following High School Joey enlisted in the United States Air Force ultimately earning the rank of Sergeant. He was a longtime member of the International Longshoremen's Association – 1329. After 35 years in the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union 51, he retired in 2008. Joseph loved finding a great bargain. He shopped daily at Building #19 where everybody knew his name and you could find “Good Stuff Cheap”. You could find him at flea markets or yard sales on most weekends. He also enjoyed taking his chances at the local casinos. He was always “Hanging in there” or “Kool in the Gang”. Joey loved his family and friends. We will forever remember Joey him for his love of camping at Outdoor World, vacationing, dancing at family gatherings, the boat in his front yard and drives in his conversion vans. Joey and Tweety opened their home on 98 Williams Avenue to many family and friends for short and extended stays. Joseph was a loving father, devoted brother and trusted friend who left a mark on many.


 Besides his wife, Joseph is survived by his children: Valerie Osei, Vanessa Martin, Veronica Johnson (Claude), Dawn Kilgore, Dwayne Kilgore, Tiara Silva-Gardner (Jason), and Candace Joseph (Raynald); 21 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren; siblings: Anita J. McCarthy, Donna M. Silva, Ronald J. Silva, and Nicholas W. (Geraldine) Silva; as well as numerous extended family members and friends. 


His funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 1,2023 at 11:00 AM in the Perry-McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence, RI 02914. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 from 4-7 PM.
