Nancy J. Walden Obituary

Nancy Jeanne Walden, 75, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2023 at Ramsey Village in Des Moines. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Resthaven Cemetery, West Des Moines. All are welcome to attend.

Miss Walden was born in Des Moines on January 19, 1948 to Corwin and Lela (Hull) Walden. A life-long Iowan, she was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, Simpson College, where she became a member of Delta Zeta Sorority and the University of Northern Iowa. She was an elementary school teacher for thirty-five years, having taught in Marshalltown and Des Moines.

Nancy was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Des Moines Area Retired School Personnel Association.

Nancy was a kind, thoughtful person who always put others ahead of herself. She will be remembered for her generosity, inquiring mind and wonderful sense of humor. She was a genealogist, who was especially interested in her family’s Danish roots: The Larsens. Nancy and her sister, Judy hosted several reunions of the Larsen family which drew relatives from all over.

Nancy loved to travel and enjoyed a variety of cruises and trips to Europe where she made several good friends in Denmark and Finland. She had been to all fifty states. She was a devoted Iowa Hawkeye fan and attended most of their bowl games. She also loved working on her high school reunion committee and caring for cats.

Nancy is survived by several cousins and a host of friends who were fortunate to have known her. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved sister, Judith Walden in 2021.

Her family would like to thank those who cared for Nancy during her brief illness and especially Sheila and Paula for their loving attention to her.

Memorial may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, Roosevelt High School or Grace United Methodist Church.
