Gerald J. Bouma

<p>Gerald passed away peacefully on May 27 at The Moncton Hospital. Born in Amersfoort, The Netherlands on June 16, 1935. He was the son of the late Gerald John Bouma and the late Wilhelmina Johanna Bouma (Kaldenhoven).</p><p><br></p><p>He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Gemma Marie Bouma (Gallant); one daughter, Christina Taylor (Richard); two sons, Peter (Amanda) and Philip (Melanie, and her children); grandchildren, William and Angela Taylor, Sullivan, Claira, Patrick and Andrew Bouma; step grandchild Layne Workmen. He is also survived by two brothers, Hans (Betty) and Peter (Leda); two sisters, Elly Gallant (late Marc) and Jane Hachey (Clifford); brother-in-law, Jasper LaFrance; as well as many nieces and nephews.</p><p>Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Wilhelmina LaFrance.</p><p><br></p><p>Gerald spent most of his working life in the wholesale building supply business at Eddy and Lighthouse Lumber. He was an avid gardener and has won many prizes for his flowers and his vegetables at the Westmorland Horticultural shows. He loved singing, he was a member of choirs in the Netherlands, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Bathurst, and St. Augustine’s and St. Bernards in Moncton, he was also a member of the metrotones. Gerald worked out regularly at the YMCA since his retirement. He loved socializing by playing cards with his friends at Carson Drive and then Emma Place. He and his wife, Gemma loved to travel. Family was so important. He loved his Bouma family, Gallant family and most of all his own family, who he was so proud of. Christina, Peter, Philip and his grandchildren, brought so much joy and laughter to his life.</p><p><br></p><p>At Gerald’s request there will be no visitation. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (506-858-1995) on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at 11:00 am. Obituary
