Harold Owen Garnett Obituary

Mount Vernon, Maine – Harold O. “Hal” Garnett, 85, of Mt. Vernon, passed peacefully in the early morning hours of Monday May 29, 2023 at his home on the shores of Long Pond in Mount Vernon, Maine.

He was born on Sept. 18, 1937 in Corinna, Maine, a son of Carl and Grace (Miller) Garnett. He was a graduate of Corinna Union Academy and following graduation, entered the United Stated Navy Air Force. On a blind date, he met Charlene Mary Tice, whom he married in 1961. Early in his career he was employed at Pratt-Whitney. He retired as a sales engineer in heating and air conditioning after 32 years of dedicated employment for the Honeywell Corporation. For 25 years he served his community as a part-time constable and also served for many of those years on the Fire Dept. in Marlborough, CT.

In 2004, he and Charlene returned to their beloved home-State of Maine. It could be said that he was a “Maineboy”, raised to believe in the principle of the Golden Rule and hard work while always enjoying the beauty and adventures that the four seasons offer, from hunting and fishing, to boating, riding motorcycles, flying airplanes, taking a ride down country roads in a convertible and enjoying many snowmobile rides the Rome Ruff Riders.

He will be missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing him and will always be loved by his wife, Charlene, of Mount Vernon; several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Norman Garnett and two sisters Ruth Rideout and Alice Willey.

Public memorial graveside services with military honors will be held Thurs. June 29th at 2 PM at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta. Remembrance gifts may be given in his memory to either the Travis Mills Fdt., 647 Castle Island Rd., Mount Vernon, Maine 04352 or to the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital 22 Bramhall St. Portland, Me. 04102. Online condolences and tributes may be shared on his memorial wall at www.wilesrc.com.
