Spencer Ann Redfern Obituary

Spencer Ann Brown, age 88, died peacefully on Saturday, May 27 surrounded by family.

Spencer was born August 4, 1934, to Mary Spencer and Roy Brown. She spent her early years in Lee's Summit, Missouri. She graduated from Gulf Park Junior College with an Associate of Arts Degree 1954 and Drury College with a Degree in Education 1956, where she was member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and active in the Drama Department. She lived in Springfield, Missouri, for the rest of her life.

On August 26, 1961, Spencer was united in marriage to Eugene F. Meyer, Jr. They were married for 49 years before his death in 2011. In 2012, she married Jerry Lee Redfern, whom she had known since their college years at Drury. He passed away in 2020.

Spencer is survived by her children Murray Beairsto (Doug), Mary Keyes (Robert), and Thomas Meyer (Christi); grandchildren Charlotte Cabrera (Patrick), Chandler Craven, Ben Beairsto (Kayla), Kiersten Meyer, Macie Beairsto, and Tatum Meyer; step-grandchildren Jessie Keyes Powell (Sage), Caroline Keyes, and Chloe Keyes. In January, Thomas Eugene Cabrera, Spencer's first great-grandchild, was born. We will cherish the photos we have of "B" holding Thomas on Easter, 2023. He will grow up hearing stories of his great-grandmother's wonderful laugh, witty sense of humor, love of needlepoint, a cool glass of beer at the end of the day, and her obsession for the Kansas Jayhawks. Spencer is also survived by her brother, Warren Brown (Sharon), brothers-in-law Dick Meyer and David Meyer (Linda), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Spencer enjoyed many years of volunteer work with the Junior League of Springfield, The Girls Club of Springfield, and Meals On Wheels. She was a member of Hickory Hills Country Club and Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Family was everything to Spencer, including life-long friend, Marthe Drummond Close. From Warrensburg, to Drury, to raising their families in Springfield, Marthe has known seven generations of Spencer's family. To know Spencer was to love her. To share her journey was a blessing, and we will always miss our "B."

The family wishes to thank Alison Manzardo for her guidance and compassion during this journey and especially Spencer’s daughter-in-law, Christi, for the unwavering love and care she provided the last few months to Spencer. A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Help Give Hope, 2733 E Battlefield #332, Springfield, MO 65804.
