Michael Philip Stanek

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Michael Philip Stanek of Howell, Michigan. Mike was born on July 24, 1950 in Detroit, MI and went to meet the Lord on Friday, May 26, 2023 at the age of 72. Mike was a proud teacher at Milan Public Schools for 30 years, and was an inspiration to many students. He was also a proud supporter of the Detroit Lions, even though it was sometimes painful to continue cheering them on over the years; he was a loyal fan! Mike loved fishing, and enjoyed countless adventures along the river with his friends on fishing trips, as well as solo fishing trips. At times, often, he didn’t even catch a fish, but enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the outdoors as he partook in his favorite hobby. Mike had the type of laugh that can not be replicated, and will never be forgotten. His sense of humor and his jokes will live on through his wife, nieces and nephews, daughters, granddaughters, and friends. He passed on his enthusiasm for laughter and the Detroit Lions to them, and has in turn received never-ending memorabilia gifts from them to add to his “Lion’s Den.” He passed on his wit and humor to his granddaughters, and they will always know how much they were loved by their Pa Stanek.

In addition to his wife, Blanche, Mike is survived by his daughter Lauren and son-in-law Nick, two granddaughters Charlotte and Cecelia, his sister Lorraine, and many nieces and nephews. His sense of humor and his jokes will live on through his wife, nieces and nephews, daughters, granddaughters, and friends. Mike was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather. His love for Blanche was an inspiration to many, and he was the best father and a best friend. Blanche and Mike loved to travel together, and through their travels showed Lauren the world as well. He was always supportive and loving, and willing to lend a helping hand where needed. Mike was so loved by his two granddaughters, Charlotte and Cecelia.

He is preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Livingston County Catholic Charities.
