Maria Aurora Lopez-Escalona passed away peacefully on May 23, 2023 at the age of 82. Aurora was born December 2, 1940 in Jaro, Iloilo, Philippines to Esperanza and Benjamin Lopez. She was the youngest of four siblings, nicknamed “Nene Rara.”

Aurora worked as a tax auditor for the City and County of San Francisco for 27 years. She was a cancer survivor, a devoted Catholic and an active member of the Church of the Visitacion. She was married to Mario Escalona for 40 years, with whom she traveled the world. She loved to spend time with her granddaughter Isabella.

Aurora is a testament of love, endurance, strength and faith in God. She is survived by her husband Mario Escalona, son Marlon, daughter in law Michelle, granddaughter Isabella, and her nieces Joji, Shirley, Guen, Cynthia, Rona, Robeana  and Marlo. Aurora leaves a host of friends. Her glowing presence will be missed forever.

Friends and family may visit Wednesday June 7th and Thursday June 8, 2023 from 4pm-8pm at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City. There will be a Rosary at the mortuary on June 8th at 6pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at the Church of the Visitacion, 655 Sunnydale Avenue, San Francisco on June 9th at 10am. Internment at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery to follow a 12pm.
