Sanders died late Wednesday night January 14th at the age of 87. While we mourn his passing, we are comforted by the memory of knowing him. His suffering is at an end and he has joined the family that preceded us in heaven. Lloyd was born August 28, 1926, to George and Ophelia Sanders and spent his childhood growing up in Austin on East 2nd street with his older brother, George. He and George were very close to each other and spent their lives raising families together and enjoying each other''s company until George''s passing on December 31, 2013. At 15, Lloyd worked with his father on the Southern Pacific Railroad working the line that ran through Kingsland and Llano. He attended Palm Elementary School and graduated from Austin High School. Soon after graduation, Lloyd entered the Air Force during WWII and served in Okinawa where he was in charge of Japanese POWs during the late stages of the war and after the war. After his discharge, Lloyd returned to Austin where he married is high school sweetheart, Dorothy Mae Pedersen and set about raising a family and establishing a career in Austin. Lloyd spent over 40 years in the office supply business in Austin. For many of those years he was General Manager at Von-Boeckmann Jones serving many private and public sector customers. His later career was with Railey Paper Company and Dallas Pen Company. He established many life-long friendships with co-workers and customers and was considered by all to be a man of integrity and honesty. Lloyd was involved with the South Austin Optimist Club serving a term as president as well as SAYA (South Austin Youth Association). He spent many years coaching Little League baseball for the Optimist as well as Pony League baseball for SAYA with his Nephew, Bobby Sanders. He loved to hunt and fish and spent many hours in a fishing boat or in a deer or duck blind. He would spend days hunting ducks on the Colorado River with his brother, George and his dog, Pitch. When Lloyd was stricken with Polio, George would even carry him on his back to their favorite spot on the river so they could hunt. In 1956, he was invited to join an established deer lease in Fredericksburg that was started in 1929 by members of the office supply industry. He remained on the lease for 56 years becoming the un-official leader of the group. Every menu was recorded, every funny incident chronicled. Many of our fondest memories are of that lease and the many hours we spent in his company at that lease, or in the rented fishing boat on Lake Travis at the Narrows going after White Bass. In 1969, the golf bug hit him. He had to be dragged off Lions Municipal Golf Course that first time and played once or twice every week until years later, arthritis in his hands prevented him from playing. In 1989, Lloyd met the love of his life Joan Hutcheson. They have been inseparable since meeting, establishing a life for themselves in Kingsland where they built a house together on Lake LBJ and spent many loving years together fishing the lake, taking sunset boat cruises, traveling to England and entertaining family and friends at every holiday or other occasion. Joan saw to his every need and was steadfast by his side until the very end. She is an inspiration to everyone in the family. Joan would like to thank Lloyd''s Physician, Dr. Jack Franklin and his staff from Horseshoe Bay for all their support and kindness .Joan would also like to thank Scott and White Hospice for all their help and especially Pastor Grady Roe for his prayers and comforting words. Lloyd lived his life by the Golden Rule. As a result, he had the love, respect and admiration of all who knew him. There is no end to the number of lives he touched- from family, co-workers, young men playing baseball as well as perfect strangers- even Japanese POWs. Family members called him uncle ''Bub'' because he was their favorite. Uncle Bub will be sorely missed. Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents and step father, his brother, George his first wife, Dorothy and his Great Niece Sarah Sanders. He is survived by his loving companion Joan and her children Rhoda and Bobby, Three children, Keith Sanders (Pam), Gregg Sanders and Cynthia Troiani (Sanders), four grandchildren Brandon Sanders, Jayme Hayes (Sanders), Austin Troiani and Parker Troiani and three Great Grandchildren, Leo and Chloe Sanders and Mason Hayes. He is also survived by his Nieces and Nephews Patsy Johnson (Jesse), George L. Sanders (Susan), Faye Dickson, Robert (Bob) Sanders (Bobbie), Clifton R. Sanders (Connie) and Curtis N. Sanders, DMV (Suzanne). He is also survived by 15 grandnieces/nephews and 26 great nieces/nephews. In addition to his many other wonderful talents, Uncle Bub was a gift wrapper par excellence.. You WANTED to get a present he wrapped.. Even if the gift was disappointing, the wrapping never was. Hugs to Joan, Keith, Greg, and Cynthia. Xoxoxo.
