Nadine Mary Edith Josey-Close Obituary

Josey-Close, Nadine Mary Edith – 74 of Halifax, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 25, 2023, in the Halifax Hospice surrounded by family and loved ones. Born on October 24, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Alvin Josey and Catherine Josey (Butler) of Sheet Harbour. She was predeceased by her brother Eugene and her daughter-in-law Theresa.

Nadine was well liked by students as a lunch monitor at public schools in Fairview, Halifax. She also worked for many years as a retail grocery clerk at a few Atlantic Superstore locations in Halifax, where she served customers with a kind, gentle and friendly demeanor.

Nadine will be sadly missed by her partner Edward Price, her three children, David, Frederick, and Vanessa, her daughter-in-law Michele, her grandchildren T.J., Anyssa, Selena, and Leander, her great grandchildren Blake and Liam, and her lifelong special friend Michael Hemsworth.

She is survived by her brothers Alvin and Paul, sister Catherine, nieces Kim, Heather, Karen, Shauna and Stephanie, and nephew Justin.

Nadine loved her family dearly and always made time to make them feel special and to bring them together. The grandchildren loved that she was “hip”, staying current with the latest fashions, styles, music and culture. She always had a great home stereo, and her turntable and vinyl record collection were well used and brought her great joy. Throughout her life Nadine enjoyed interior decorating and she created warm and comfortable living spaces for her family.

Nadine was always up for an adventure. Early in life she spent time living in Toronto and traveling to several countries in Europe. In the past 30 years she has made countless trips to Ottawa to spend time with family, sight-seeing, going to museums, galleries, concerts, Bluesfest, NHL games, and also sailing, boating, and cottaging.

A funeral service will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Sheet Harbour at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 29, 2023, followed by a burial service in the St. Peter’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Nadine's memory to Hospice Halifax at www.hospicehalifax.ca/donate or by calling 902-446-0929.
