Dale L. Johnson----89, Minot, died Thursday, May 25, 2023 in his home.


Dale L. Johnson was born January 3, 1934, the son of Orville and Gunhilda (Fjeldahl) Johnson in McLean County, North Dakota. He was educated at Snow School #1. Dale worked on the family farm until the age of 20.


Dale enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving our country during the Korean Conflict. Dale was honorably discharged on November 16, 1956. He continued his service as a member of the Army National Guard until 1976.


On August 23, 1958, Dale was united in marriage to Joyce E. Westfall in Garrison, ND. Following their marriage they moved to a farmstead south of Berthold, where they farmed and raised various livestock. Together they had eight children. During his farming years Dale also worked as a truck driver, livestock yard hand and he also helped build many missile sites in and around the Minot Air Force Base.


After farming for nearly 20 years, the family moved to Minot, where Dale worked at Minot Farmers Elevator for the next eight years until retirement. After 2 years of retirement, he decided it was not for him and went to work part time for Minot Commission on Aging delivering Meals on Wheels and that developed into cooking full time for the Parker Senior Center until age 70 when he decided to give retirement another shot. In his later years he enjoyed spending time with his 23 grandchildren and 55 (almost 57) great-grandchildren.


Dale enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, camping and most of all gardening.


He was a member of the Church of God, VFW Post # 753, 1980 Cootie (Now a lifetime member) and the Eagles club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joyce, a brother Lloyd, and sisters Lucille (Lowell) Nygaard, Orpha (Roger) Kensmoe and a granddaughter Cristy Marie Johnson.


Visitation: There will be no reviewal as cremation has taken place, however, friends may sign a guest register on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 from 9 am until service time at the Badke residence, located at 512 4th Ave SW, Surrey, ND.


Memorial Service: Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at 10 am at the Badke residence, located at 512 4th Ave SW, Surrey, ND.


Graveside Service for Joyce and Dale: Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at 3 pm at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND
