Margaret Schultz Obituary

Margaret Schultz, 100 years of age, of Bagley, Minnesota passed away on Monday, May 22nd at the Sanford Bagley Medical Center in Bagley, surrounded by her six loving children. She was born to Gustav and Ingeborg Berentsen on April 27, 1923. She married Donald Schultz in 1944. They purchased a farm south of Bagley where they worked together and raised their family. Donald passed away in 1989, while Margaret continued to live on the farm until moving into Otterkill Apartments, where she resided until her death. Margaret worked at Dowell’s Lefse Shop in Ebro, where she discovered her talent and passion for lefse making. This led her to begin her own little business of making and selling her lefse. She peeled hundreds of pounds of potatoes, so all her family, friends and neighbors could enjoy lefse for the holidays. She became famous for this delicacy. She was a cook at the Bagley Senior Citizens for a short time. One of her favorite pastimes was making quilts. She made numerous quilts and gave them to her children and grandchildren. She entered them into the Clearwater County Fair and was so proud when she would win prize ribbons; she enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing cards, and the game of Aggrevation with her neighbors. Margaret loved playing Tuesday night Bingo with her special friends at Otterkill Apartment and spending time with her family. She never wanted to miss an event or celebration. Margaret was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church of rural Bagley where she was active in the Bethel Ladies Aid group and taught Sunday School while her children were attending.

Margaret is survived by one son – Devere (Vikki) Schultz; five daughters – Sharon Johnson; Phyllis (Keith) Baumann; Cheryl (Steve) Netland; Margaret Ann Johnson, all of Bagley, MN; Jane Olson of Clearbrook, MN; grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; brothers – Gustav (Sonny) Berentsen of Bagley, MN; Olaf Berentsen of Linnwood, WA; sister-in-law, Violet Berentson of Bremerton, Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
