David Daniel Martinook Obituary

PLAINVILLE - The world lost a kind and gentle soul on May 18, 2023, when David D. Martinook unexpectedly passed away at home in Plainville CT. Dave was born on January 4, 1951 in New Britain, CT, to Daniel Martinook and Jean (Dilger) Martinook, who preceded him in death. Dave shared a special bond with his aunt and uncle, Ethel Dilger and Joseph Taradina, Sr., who also preceded him in death.

Dave was a graphic designer by trade as well as enjoying a long and storied career as a bicycle mechanic for local area bicycle shops. Dave was a man of many talents and fascinating interests. He was an incredible artist whose work was once featured in Rolling Stone Magazine. He held a special interest in vintage autos which were frequently the focus of his many drawings and paintings. Dave was also an excellent amateur photographer, having taken some incredible photographs of celebrities during concerts he attended.

Dave had an immense appreciation for all types of music and enjoyed sharing his depth of knowledge of a wide repertoire of different genres and trivia, especially with his brother Mark whom he loved very much. He listened to everything from opera to delta blues and was always eager to discover new artists. As an older brother, he will be deeply missed and fondly remembered as a friend, teacher, protector and a parental figure to Mark during their childhood years.

Dave had a particular passion for bike riding and spent the past 50 years riding and caring for his vintage 1970's Motobecane which was his most prized possession. Dave could be seen riding all over town on his bike as he frequented and supported local businesses. Dave was a friend to all and wanted to be remembered someday as simply the nice old guy that rode his bike all over Plainville. He loved the Plainville community and found many friends in town. His family would like to thank his wonderful and caring neighbors and friends who have shown support at this difficult time.

Dave was a brother, best friend and confidant who will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his warm smile and enthusiastic way of greeting others, making them feel at ease with his understanding and compassion. One of Dave's favorite places to be was sitting under a tree, feeding the squirrels every day while listening to the church bells from the Congregational Church of Plainville. He spoke of this often as it gave him a sense of peace and solace. Dave spent a considerable amount of time with his friend and neighbor's dog Sasha, who he absolutely adored. Dave is survived by his brother Mark Bertini (and his partner Kathy) and many cousins and lifelong friends whom he cherished. Dave's brother Mark would also like to express his appreciation for the love and support that has been shown by their cousin Joseph Taradina, Jr.

Calling hours will take place at Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad Street, Plainville, CT on Friday, June 2, 2023, from 9-11 am followed by a brief service at 11 am.
