Halon “Jean” Toenges, 84, passed away from Alzheimer’s May 25, 2023, in Houston, Texas. She was born October 30, 1938 to Maurice and Frances (Cannon) Hogan in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Carlon and James Thorpe of Houston, TX. She was proceeded in death by her loving husband, Robert F. Toenges and by her parents.

Jean was a graduate of the University of Arkansas with a B.S. in Business Administration. After a 10-year career in marketing and administration, Jean ran the family farm and cared for her family. During this time, her lifelong love of gardening came to fruition. She was the President of the NW Arkansas Daylily Association for several years and enjoyed displaying her ½ acre flower garden to people from around the state. Jean’s love of Christ was the defining force of her life. She was a member of the Harmon United Methodist Church for many years, and she taught Sunday School for over 25 years. She was very active in the church’s food pantry since its inception in 2005 and loved serving others.

Even as Jean’s health and memory declined in her last 4 years, she continued to honor God. Miss Jean, as she was known, always had a kind word, a kiss, and an encouragement that God was ever present.

Jean’s memorial service will be at 10:00 am June 9, 2023, at the Harmon United Methodist Church at 19032 Co Rd 31, Fayetteville, AR 72704. A private burial will be at the Fayetteville National Cemetery beside her husband. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Harmon United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
