Lorna Mae Lawrence, age 101 years, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, May 25th at Fisher Senior Care in Mayville. She was born on March 13, 1922 in St. Vincent, Minnesota, the daughter of the late Harry and Winifred (Hutchens) Ryden. In 1924, her family moved to Pontiac, Michigan and Lorna graduated from Pontiac High School in 1940. She married her high school sweetheart, Devere Robb Lawrence on October 10, 1940. They had a beautiful life together – they spent a lot of time traveling out west and spent a lot of time with friends – hosting and attending dinner parties & playing cards. In the years after her husband’s death, Lorna devoted her life to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always looked forward to their visits – they made her happy and she was proud of them. Lorna was a devoted and longtime member of the Vassar First United Methodist Church.

Lorna is survived by her daughter, Lisa Webster; grandchildren, Matthew (Becky) Vettraino, Anthony (Danae Palm) Vettraino, Rose Vettraino, John Railey and Calisa Robinson; great-grandchildren, Valerie Vettraino, Owen & Hudson Vettraino and Sadie Palm. Lorna was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Winifred Ryden and her husband, Devere Robb Lawrence.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at the Penzien-Steele Funeral Home, 149 N. Main St. in Vassar. The Rev. Scott Sherrill officiating with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
