<p><br></p><p>Dr. John P. Williams (Retired Captain, USNDC), age 93, formerly of Norfolk, VA, was a resident of the State of North Carolina Veterans Nursing Home in Black Mountain, NC. He passed away peacefully on May 21, 2023 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC.</p><p><br></p><p>Dr. Williams was the son of John J. and Yolanda Williams, born August 25, 1929 in Manhattan, NY. A graduate of St. Francis College (Brooklyn, NY) where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree; New York University College of Dentistry (NYC, NY) where he obtained his Doctor of Dental Science degree; and George Washington University (Washington, DC) where he obtained his Master of Forensic Science degree.</p><p><br></p><p>Dr. Williams enlisted during the Korean War as a Petty Officer Second Class in the USN Hospital Corps, and later served as a Commissioned Officer in the US Navy Dental Corps before retiring as Captain in 1995 receiving the National Defense Service Medal, and Navy Commendation Medal with 1 Gold Star. Throughout his career, Dr. Williams served as a Consultant in Forensic Odontology to the military police, Naval Intelligence Service, Norfolk Police Department, Portsmouth Police Department, and the State Medical Examiner’s Office, Norfolk, VA. After retiring from the US Navy Dental Corps, he was employed by the Navy Regional Dental Corps as a Temporary Dental Officer in Norfolk, VA.</p><p><br></p><p>Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Marie; his parents, John J. and Yolanda; his brothers, William and Roger; and his sisters, Vera and Gertrude.</p><p><br></p><p>Survived by his loving children, Patricia (Richard) Pohland, Kathleen Williams, Thomas (Mary) Williams, Nancy Harvey, Christopher (Cynthia) Williams, Edward Williams, and Margaret Williams; eight adored grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.</p><p><br></p><p>Funeral Mass Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Margaret of Scotland Roman Catholic Church in Maggie Valley, NC. Interment at a later date at the Arlington National Cemetery Columbarium, Arlington, VA.</p><p><br></p>
