William Truman Gott

Lieutenant William T. Gott, USN Retired, of Georgetown, KY, died peacefully on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at the age of 78. Bill was born on January 15, 1939 in Lexington, KY to Joe and Grace (Reagan) Gott. On January 17, 1959 Bill married his high school sweetheart, Carol Sims, and over the next several years they welcomed three children. In 1960, Bill joined the US Navy where he served honorably for 20 years working in the submarine service aboard diesel and nuclear powered submarines and submarine support ships. Bill had numerous duty stations within the US as well as tours in Italy and Guam. While Bill served aboard several ships, he was very proud of the fact that he served aboard the submarine that bore his high school’s namesake, the USS Henry Clay (SSBN 625). Following naval service, he was the director of training for several nuclear power plants. Bill is survived by his children, Allen (Linda), Jeff (Darragh), and Dawn (Ted) Pickerill. He also leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren who were the joy of his life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Gott; parents, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters. Memorial Service will be held Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 10:30 am at First Presbyterian Church, 317 E. Main Street, Georgetown, KY with Rev. Wanda B. Olive officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior. A reception will follow in the church hall, and all are welcome to attend and celebrate Bill’s life. Inurnment will be held at 2:30 pm at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Nicholasville, KY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John XXIII Catholic School, 3806 Manchester Rd. Middletown, Oh 45042 or First Presbyterian Church, 317 E. Main Street, Georgetown, KY 40324. Care Cremation and Funeral Service are entrusted with final care.
