Jean Marie Moss Obituary

JEAN MARIE MOSS,

92, of Mt. Pleasant, died Sunday May 21, 2023 in her daughter’s home in Cass City. She was born February 1, 1931 in Mt. Pleasant to Carlyle Alva and Viola Mary Jane (Beattie) Darroch. She married George Franklin Moss on February 3, 1951 in Angola, IN. He died March 6, 2000.

Jean graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School and attended Central Michigan University. She worked for her father at the Borden Condensary until her family had grown to three children. The city girl then learned to be a farmer by raising chickens, pigs, cows, and gardening. Jean hand milked an Angus cow and taught her daughter some colorful show and tell language for school, when the cow kept stepping in the bucket. She made butter, bread, baked the best pies, canned vegetables from the garden, and taught her children very valuable life skills. Jean was very accomplished at sewing and knitting. She taught these skills to many children throughout 4-H. From her they learned baking, sewing, knitting, gardening, leathercrafting, and horses. Because of her children’s involvement with horses, Jean and her husband were very involved with the Chippewa Wranglers Riding Club. They were also members of the Modern Pioneers, where the family and friends took buggy and wagon trips to various locations in Michigan. She assisted her husband with bookkeeping for his business, George and Mike’s Buggy Shop. When her children were older, Jean worked in accounts receivable for Central Michigan University until she retired. She loved spending time with her family and meeting new people.

Jean is survived by four daughters: Kathleen (Robert DeLong) Moss of Cass City, Patricia (Tim) Robertson of Saginaw, Deborah Howard of Mt. Pleasant, Pam (Dean) Pearch of St. Louis, MO; son, Michael Moss of Mt. Pleasant; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, one great-great- grandson; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George; granddaughter, Heather Marie Robertson; grandson, Paul DeLong; brother, Robert Hugh (Lois) Darroch.

Cremation has taken place. Memorials may be made to the Moss family, in care of Kathleen Moss for the family’s discretion.
