Willie D. Brown Obituary

Mr. Willie Brown died Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi. The funeral will be Thursday, May 25, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Quarles officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 12:00 P.M. Burial will follow in Lafayette Springs Cemetery. 


Mr. Brown was born in Lafayette Springs, MS to the late Willie Elwood Brown and Thelma Mae Garrett. Mr. Brown served his country in the United States Army. He married his sweetheart, Peggie Stewart in 1955. They were together through their school years, where they were known as the school “lovebirds”. In his younger years, Willie enjoyed quail hunting, gardening, and working with cattle and horses. Mr. Brown’s church days were started when he was a young boy, going to church by mule and wagon with his family. He served as a deacon for twenty years at Shiloh Baptist Church, where he attended since early childhood. Willie retired from Emerson Electric, where he worked for twenty-five years. Prior to Emerson Electric, he worked at Sealtest in Memphis, TN for eighteen years. Known to his family for his love of cooking, he was famous for his homemade soups, potato salad and turnip greens. One of Mr. Brown’s favorite places to visit, was the Smoky Mountains, where he visited since the 1960’s. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggie Brown; and his brother, Bill Brown.


Mr. Brown is survived by three daughters, Sheila Joslin and her husband, Jimmy, of Thaxton, MS; Karen Tuttle and her husband, Frank, of Oxford, MS; Krista Poynor and her husband, Dobbie, of Banner, MS; one son, Jerry Brown and his wife, Lexanne, of Oxford, MS; six grandchildren, Angeila Joslin, Ramsey Brown, Robbie Brown, John Robert Brown, Brianna Trest, and Kateleigh Poynor; and five great-great-grandchildren, Grayson Brown, Blakely Brown, Reese Brown, Everett Brown and Swayze Kate Trest.
