James Carlton Johnston
<p>James Carlton “Jim” Johnston, of Rolla, MO, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2023 at the age of 77.</p><p>He was born on September 2, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Paul Johnston and Ruth (Papke) Johnston. On June 15, 1968 he married Helen (Althoff) Johnston.</p><p>Jim enjoyed traveling, coaching baseball and basketball. He loved playing baseball and was an avid Cardinal fan. Jim was a Lutheran school teacher for many years and retired in 2010. He also enjoyed teaching math and tutoring children that needed additional help. He enjoyed putting in the vegetable garden with Helen, and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and friends.</p><p>Jim will be greatly missed by his surviving family which includes: his wife Helen Johnston of Rolla, MO; three sons, Neal Johnston and wife, Dawn of Tyler, TX, Nathan Johnston and wife Christine of St. Charles, MO, Matthew Johnston and wife Caitlin of Edgewater, Maryland; two daughters, Kristin Phillips and husband, Tim of Salisbury, NC, Suzannah Toso and husband, Erik of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; nine grandchildren, Jason, Gabrielle, Ashley, Harrison, Anna, Nicklas, Kenley, Niko and Luke; and one brother John Johnston of the State of Michigan.</p><p>A funeral service for James C. Johnston will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 22, 2023 at the Null and Son Funeral Home of Rolla. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service beginning at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.</p><p>Memorial contributions are suggested to the Lutheran World Relief.</p><p><br></p>Obituary
