Margie Kathryn Avants

Oklahoma City: Margie Kathryn Avants, 95, passed away Friday, May 12, 2023, in Oklahoma City.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, May 22, 2023, at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Marlow, with Rev. Doyle Sharp officiating. Burial will be in the Westview Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services in Marlow.

Margie was born Saturday, May 5, 1928, in Pawnee, to Cyrus Eltie and Anna Katharine (Long) Sayre. After graduating from Hydro High School, she went on to earn her Bachelor's degree in education from SWOSU. Margie worked as a teacher, teaching second and third graders until her retirement. She married the love of her life, Oscar Dale Avants, on December 19, 1947, in Clinton. Margie and Oscar celebrated more than 58 years of marriage until he preceded her in death in March 2006. Prior to moving to Oklahoma City in 2016, she lived in the Marlow and Rush Springs area. Margie was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Marlow. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and working in her garden. Margie loved her family immensely and valued spending time with them, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She touched many lives over the years and will be missed by all who loved her.

Survivors include her son, Stewart Eugene Avants of Camp Verde, AZ, daughter, Cheryl Ann Harris of Atlanta, GA, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren

In addition to her loving husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sons, Larry Dale Avants, and Keith Allen Avants, brother, Stewart Sayre, and sister, Genevieve Gonterman.
