David James Southam

<p>Mr. David Southam of Pierson, MB. passed away peacefully at the Deloraine Health Centre, Deloraine, MB. on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at the age of 93. </p><p>David is survived by his wife, Doris (Erixon); daughter, Charlene Southam; daughter, Christine (Garry) MacDonald; son, James Southam; grandchildren: Neil, Brady (Hollie) and Alyssa (Tyler), Kayla (Ranga), Melissa (Dan) and Brett, Angela and Rodney (Bradee); several great-grandchildren; brothers, Douglas (Isabelle) and Stewart; sister, Ruth (Bill) Moore; numerous nieces and nephews. </p><p>He was predeceased by his father, Hiram; mother, Mollie (Curr); sister, Aileen; brother, Gordon; sister-in-law, Karen. </p><p>Dave was born in Brandon, Manitoba to Hiram and Mollie Southam. He attended school in Pierson, Manitoba and later took his Journeyman Electrician in Brandon. In 1957 he married Doris Erixon of Lyleton and they settled on the southeast quarter of 26-2-29. Dave’s greatest wish was to stay on the farm until his passing. </p><p>Dave was a farmer, electrician and jack-of-all trades in home and machinery repair. Dave and Don Mayes spent the winter months in the shop fabricating metal products such as cattle panels, feeders and canola rollers. </p><p>Dave was an active member of the Pierson Lions Club, member of the RM of Edward school board trustee as well as served on Pierson rink and hall committees. He also enjoyed curling, hockey, hunting and fishing. </p><p>Many fun filled hours were spent watching activities of the grandchildren with hockey, ball, bowling, kayaking and archery. Many of the grandchildren received hand crafted wooden furniture made by Grandpa (and finished by Grandma). </p><p>He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. May he rest in peace. </p><p>The funeral service was held at the Pierson Community Hall, Pierson, MB. on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with (rev.) Heather Sandilands officiating.
