Dennis Lee Johnson of Fairbury, NE the son of Carl and Marie (Stolting) Johnson was born October 31, 1947 in Fairbury, NE.  He departed this life Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Thayer County Health Services in Hebron, NE at the age of 75 years.

Dennis grew up in the Fairbury area attending grade school in Gladstone and graduating from Fairbury High School with the class of 1965.

He married Mary Shamburg and this union was blessed with the birth of one daughter.

Dennis farmed all of his life; he loved being out in God’s great creation.  But besides farming Dennis was quite a mechanic, fixing whatever needed to be fixed.  One winter he and his brother built a three-wheeler out of spare parts in the shop and he drove it over 90,000 miles. 

Tractor pulls were his passion. He and his brother Mark enjoyed competing and won a national championship.  Winning the nationals was no small thing; they loaded his tractor into a container and shipped it to The Netherlands to compete in the world finals.  Taking his family to Holland was quite a trip.  He also loved sprint car racing with his brother on his pit crew.

Besides farming Dennis would load up his combine and travel north and south to custom combine wheat.

Dennis loved spending time with his family, especially his grandson Zayne, the light of his life.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his daughter Roni Johnson of Firth, NE, brother Mark Johnson of Fairbury, NE and grandson Zayne Johnson of Firth, NE, along with many friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 21, 2023 at Kroll Funeral Home Chapel in Hebron, NE at 10:30AM.  Visitation will be Thursday, April 20, 2023 at Kroll Funeral Home in Hebron, NE 2-6 PM. Recorded music; “Something You Get Through” by Willie Nelson, and “Crowned Around The Corner” by Earl Thomas Conley. Casket bearers Zayne Johnson, Mark Johnson, Kurt Itzen, Aaron Itzen, Justin Itzen, Alex Kasparek.   Burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Fairbury, NE.
