Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Philip Stewart James Ball passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 16th, in his 70th year, at Oak Ridges Hospice.

Beloved husband of Susan. Loving father of Jennifer(Marty) and Ashley(Ian) and Poppa to Mia Rembecki. Brother to Stephen, and predeceased by his parents, Helen and Allan Ball. Philip will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

What does someone write about a man who was legendary? Words cannot express what a wonderful man, father, husband, friend, and hero Philip was. He was always full of humility, joy, laughter and had an impeccable timing for comedy, being able to crack the right joke, at the right moment. His quiet but strong character allowed him to be a genuine hero to the lives he helped as a firefighter captain in Toronto. He didn't like to brag or be in the limelight, but couldn't help but make his family proud when his acts of heroism were featured in the press throughout the years.

To have known Phil was to be around someone that actually listened instead of simply waiting for their turn to speak. He made people feel welcome and comfortable. Most importantly, he made people feel valued. Good luck finding a bad word he's said about anyone. What you saw is what you got with Phil. Speaking of luck, good luck trying to get Phil off the lake. He absolutely loved spending as much time as possible up North on his beloved Eel's Lake, located in the Haliburton Highlands. He loved to be alone up there, but could never be for too long, as his friends from the lake were absolutely drawn to him and enjoyed popping over for some laughs and a few "Eel's Lakers." He was always there to lend a helping hand. Phil's character is what makes Eel's Lake so special.... He embodied the Lake, and is a perfect symbol of what it stood for.

Phil touched many hearts and those who knew him would absolutely agree - If we had more people like Phil around, the world would be a much better place. He will be greatly missed.

Thank you immensely to the nurses, volunteers and staff of Oak Ridges Hospice for making Phil's final days as comfortable and happy as they were.

Friends may join the family for a Celebration of Life for Phil at Morris Funeral Chapel(4 Division St., Bowmanville) on Thursday, April 27 from 1-4PM, with public sharing of memories at 2:30PM. If desired, memorial donations to either Oak Ridges Hospice (Port Perry, ON) or the Canadian Cancer Society are greatly appreciated.
