Timothy "Tim" Willis Obituary

Timothy Willis, 62, of Gladesville WV passed away Tuesday April 11, 2023 doing what he loved, riding his bicycle. He was born on July 15, 1960 in Morgantown, WV, son of the late John H. Willis and Gladys Rogers Willis. Tim graduated West Preston High School in 1978. Afterwards, he served in the Marine Corp for 3 years. He worked various jobs including Coal Train Corporation where he learned to run heavy equipment, leading him to several construction jobs such as working on Corridor H, the Summit Boy Scout Camp, and Flegal Dam and Reservoir on Cobun Creek. Tim loved everything outdoors, especially his “pet” deer.  He raced bicycles for years becoming a local legend for speed. Even after retiring from racing, Tim was frequently spotted around Preston County riding his bicycle. He rode all over the country on his motorcycle enjoying nature. Hiking, camping, kayaking, are just a few other things he loved. Tim even took flying lessons in Bridgeport and became a licensed pilot. Tim is survived by his brothers, Tom Willis (Pam) of Independence, Terry Willis (Terri) of Grafton; sisters Kathy Savage (Jeff) of Morgantown, Susan Pratt of Bluemont VA, Libby Durst of Frostburg MD; sister-in-law Louella Willis of Morgantown; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and longtime friend, Lisa Larew of Gladesville. In addition to his parents, Tim is preceded in death by his brothers, Kevin Willis, John Willis Jr. and Allen Willis; sister, Linda Willis; sister-in-law, Dorothy Willis, and brother-in-law, Joseph Durst. Family and friends will be received at Bolyard Funeral Home, 79 Morgantown Ave. Newburg, WV, Tuesday, April 18, 2023 from 2:00-6:00 PM. Full military honors will be accorded by the Preston County Honor Guard and the US Marines Honor Guard. Family is requesting no flowers.
