Esther Mae Ward

<p>Esther Mae Ward, age 90 of Yarmouth passed away peacefully at Nakile Home for Special Care on March 28,2023. Born in Overton on January 11,1933, she was a daughter to the late Hugh and Clara (Cann)Fevens. Esther was a member of Overton Baptist Church for 25 years, member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church for 30 years and then Temple Baptist Church in Yarmouth until her passing. Right out of high school she worked as a waitress for Wagners, then telephone operator for Maritime Tel &amp; Tel for 5 years. She was married at 21 years of age, to the late Howard Thompson Jr. and spent the next 25 plus years raising a family. She later worked for Joel Smith and his wife as housekeeper and cook, Minard’s Bakery, and several years caring for elderly ladies at home. In 2004 she began a 3 year of Lay Pastors course, graduating in 2007 at the age of 74. In 2010 began chaplaincy work for New Beginnings Seniors Boarding Home. Over the years she led/ taught bible studies and Sunday school classes. She was involved for many years in Ladies retreat at Camp Peniel, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Her hobbies included reading, writing , embroidery and doing jigsaw puzzles. Esther's favorite place was Mink Lake which she called her Haven and around the back shore watching the waves. Esther is survived by her children, Heather Wilton (Henry), Brazil Lake; Janice d’Entremont (Reg), Lower West Pubnico; John Thompson (Gina), West Pubnico; Ruth LeBlanc (John), Wedgeport; Elizabeth Jacquard (Greg), Wedgeport; daughter in law, Lynn Thompson, Overton; half brothers, Douglas Kenny (Linda); Curtis Kenny (Gail); sisters, Joyce Ryan (Larry); Stella Spinney (Arley); 15 grandchildren and many great grand children. Aside from her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Ervin Ward; previous husband, Daniel Swyer; stepfather, Robie Kenney; son, Brian Thompson; sister, Elizabeth Bourque; infant brothers, Ashley and Raymond Fevens ;grandsons, Shawn and Robert Thompson; 3 great grandchildren in infancy. In keeping with mum's wishes, we will be doing a small private viewing for family and invited guests beginning at 7 pm on Monday , April 3, 2023 and will close casket at 8 pm where all those who wish to send their condolences may attend to support the family. A funeral Service will be Saturday, April 15,2023 at 11 a.m. from the Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Raymond Pitcher and Pastor Robert Gates officiating. Internment in the Cheggogin Cemetery. A reception will follow the interment at the Yarmouth Temple Church Hall.The family would like to thank all the nurses, recreational staff &amp; Doctors at Nakile Home for Special Care. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to Overton Baptist Church, Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Temple Baptist Church or the Friends of Gilles Boudreau Cancer Help Fund.
