<p>Graciela Compean, 83, of San Benito, went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, March 24, 2023. She was surrounded by her loved ones as she left earth and entered the Holy Kingdom of God.</p><p><br></p><p>Graciela was born in Port Isabel, TX to Eliseo and Luisa Cuellar and was a resident of San Benito, Texas. A loving mother and homemaker, Graciela was dedicated to her children and to her husband of 64 years, Hilario Compean. Graciela was a very loving and giving person and took on a motherly role to several of her siblings. Although she only had a 3rd grade education, she was able to master the English language and became an excellent reader and writer. She instilled the importance of education in her children which led to her children’s success in school and university.</p><p><br></p><p>Graciela loved and adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She wore two titles, “mom” and “grandma”, and she wore them well. She taught her children compassion and the importance of family values. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. She made this special day so magical. Friends and family remember her beautiful decorated Christmas trees with so many presents that were bought for all. Her traditions and love for her family will continue to be cherished.</p><p><br></p><p>Graciela Compean was preceded in death by her parents, Eliseo and Luisa Cuellar;</p><p>sisters, Inez Valdez, Dora Vela, Esperanza Martinez, Nereida Mejia; her son, Joe Hilario Compean; and her loving husband, Hilario Compean.</p><p><br></p><p>Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Enedina (Eleuterio) Martinez, Graciela (Jerry+) Mata, Mary (Amos+) Guzman, Rebecca Compean (Israel Esquivel); son, Juan Eliseo Compean; nephew, Ruben Ramirez; grandchildren, Trey (Dalia) Martinez, Eradio (Alexa) Martinez, Erik Daniel Martinez, Jeremy (Jasmine) Mata, Erica (John) Castro, Ashley Cruz, Angel (Clark) Ladd, Amos (Kimberly) Guzman, Nayeli and Noah Esquivel, and 14 great-grandchildren.</p><p><br></p><p>*Graciela (Chela) Compean…mom…thank you for everything you did for us, for everything you taught us, and more importantly, for the love that you gave us.
