Dale Boyd Wynn, Jr Obituary

On August 18, 1943, in Sentinel, Oklahoma, Dale Boyd Wynn, Jr. the oldest of four children was born to Edna Mae Jones Wynn and Dale Boyd Wynn, Sr. At an early age the Wynn family moved to Weatherford, Oklahoma and this would always be D. B.'s home base. He graduated from Weatherford High School in May of 1961 and soon after met and married his love, Ruby Gail Miller Wynn in August of 1963. Their marriage spanned nearly sixty years and together, they raised three daughters, Deedra Wynn, Andrea Wynn Sampley, and Amy Wynn.

During the course of his lifetime, D.B. has held a host of jobs and careers. He has been a newspaper boy, a full-service gas station attendant, a meter reader for the electric company, a truck driver and delivery man, a postal worker, a sheep farmer during lambing season, a driver's license examiner, a wheat farmer, and an Oklahoma Highway Patrolman. He eventually retired from the OHP with over 30 years on the force. Each and every job held some sort of crazy adventure and he always had a story to tell.

Although he never cared much for school, D.B. was an avid reader and any western by Louis Lamour could always be found close at hand. D.B. had a passion for teaching and working with young people. He taught various Sunday school age groups. He was a "fixture" at Falls Creek Baptist Assembly for over 25 years and instrumental in the collaborative efforts of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Elks in the Cadet Lawman Summer Program. He was also part of many Public Service Announcement campaigns for radio and television, his most notable being, D.B. Dobbs from Junebug, Oklahoma.

His retirement years brought many new adventures and stories, but spending time with his grandchildren were his favorite.

Preceded in death by his parents, Edna Mae and Dale Wynn, Sr. and his youngest brother, Matt Wynn.

Survived by his wife, Ruby Miller Wynn, daughters, Deedra Wynn and wife, Tammy, Andrea Wynn Sampley and husband, Chad Sampley, and Amy Wynn. Grandchildren- Wynndee Thiessen, Chance Sampley, Destynnee Wynn, Chavan Sampley and wife, Paige Sampley, Dakota Wynn and Dalton Wynn. Great grandchildren-Corbynn Flanary, Lovela Coggeshall and Colt Sampley. He is also survived by his brother, Gary and wife, Claudette Wynn and his sister, Sherri Wynn Clarke and too many nieces and nephews to list.

D.B. passed Saturday, March 25, 2023, and will be missed by many.
