<p>ELIZABETH STONE</p><p>Houlton - Elizabeth “Betty” Jayne (Anderson) Stone, 86, died March 21, 2023, at Madigan Estates. She was the only child of Clair E. and Helen (Kilgore) Anderson, born February 18, 1937 in Smyrna Mills.</p><p>Betty graduated from Oakfield High School in 1953 after two years early advancement through grammar school and attended Ricker College earning an administrative degree. She married Ervin L Stone on June 25, 1955. They had their first and only child, Heidi, who was born in Elizabethtown, KY, in February 1956 before Ervin was deployed to Germany. At the completion of his deployment they made their home in Houlton, Maine. In 1963 - 1964 they lived in Columbia, SC, where Ervin earned his MSEd in Mathematics.</p><p>She worked for Dr. Virgie, DDM and the First National Bank until returning to Ricker College in 1970, earning her BSEd in English. After attaining her BSEd, Betty was a beloved and dedicated teacher at Houlton High School, along with Ervin, until her retirement but continued to teach as a substitute until the COVID epidemic. She was also a successful competition bridge player, and an avid traveler and reader.</p><p>In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband in 1997. She is survived by her daughter, Heidi; son-in-law, Richard Venuti; beloved granddaughter, Elizabeth Jean Venuti; step-grandchildren, Robert Venuti, Suzanne Venuti Cohen, and Donna Venuti; sister-in-law, Thelma Stone Henderson and her family; special cousins, Arlene Crosby, Kevin Anderson; cousins, Haskell (Craig) and Ronald Anderson; and closest friend since childhood, Brenda Reed Thompson.</p><p>Betty’s family and friends express their deep appreciation to the staff at Madigan Apartments, the Nursing Home, and Dr Abouleish, for their devotion and care for her. Her apartment door was always open to all - existing friends as well as the many new ones which she made there.</p><p>A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be planned at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Betty’s honor to the Houlton Humane Society or the Cary Library, c/o Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park St. Houlton, ME 04730.
