John J. Vazquez, Jr. Obituary

John Joseph Vazquez, Jr., of Jamestown, passed away peacefully on his 94th birthday, March 19th, surrounded by his loving family at The Village House in Newport, RI.


John was born to Juan and Ana (Maldonado) Vazquez on March 19th, 1929 in Ponce, Puerto Rico. John joined the United States Navy at 17 years old. While stationed in Jamestown, he met his loving wife, Beatrice (Piva) Vazquez of 43 years, where they raised their five children.


John retired from Electric Boat in Groton, CT after 26 years of service. He went on to work for the Town of Jamestown as a gate keeper at Fort Getty Campground. John was a former member of the American Legion Post #22. He enjoyed keeping busy in his workshop, golfing, going to the movies, watching his beloved New York Giants and most of all spending time with his family.


John leaves behind his four children, John Vazquez III, Joseph Vazquez (Laurie), Lisa Jones and Edward Vazquez (Jennifer); Nine grandchildren, Alyse Cobb (Laurence), Ryan Vazquez (Ashley), Andrea Kinsella (Nicholas), Jaymes Vazquez (Erin), Neal Yeomans, Alyson Yeomans, Danielle Kennedy (James), Elizabeth Vazquez, Evan Vazquez; and his ten, beautiful great grandchildren who loved their Grampy so much. He also leaves his sisters, Irma Baez and Laura Iziarry of Ponce, Puerto Rico as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, John was preceded in death by his daughter Joanne Yeomans, and sons in-law John Yeomans and A.L. Jones Jr.


John will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Our family would like to thank the staff at Village House for making him feel so loved and cared for during the last years of his life.


Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 10 am on Friday, March 24, 2023 in St. Mark Church, 60 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown. His interment will follow in St. Mark Cemetery, Jamestown, where military funeral honors will be rendered.
