Herman Timmerman Obituary

Herman Timmerman

January 2, 1951 - March 19, 2023

“Yet I am with you always, you hold me by my right hand” (Psalm 73:36).

It is with sadness that we announce that the LORD has taken to Himself his servant Herman Timmerman at the age of 72. Herman was taken into glory on March 19, 2023.

The second youngest of nine children, Herman was born in Holland on January 2, 1951. When he was 8, his family immigrated to Brazil to start a farm in a region with other Dutch emigrants. There he met his wife-to-be Yke, and at the age of 24, he came to Canada where he made a home with his wife and raised six children.

Herman worked as a welder, a foreman, and eventually an engineering technician designing bulk feed body trailers at Walinga Inc. He also used his skills in repairing cars and motors, renovating and improving homes, and helping others with their projects. Herman used his talents to help others through his church activities, volunteering at Family and Children’s Services as a driver, and at the Mission Thrift Store. He also enjoyed traveling back to visit Brazil and Holland, as well as going on driving trips through Canada.

In 2018 Herman was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer and received radiation and chemo treatment at Juravinski Hospital, after which he enjoyed a period of remission. The cancer returned in 2022 and spread so that his mobility was limited. Despite this, Herman was still able to enjoy regular visits by friends and family. He put his hope and trust in his Lord and Saviour throughout his life, and he passed away at home surrounded by family, listening to the same song that had given him comfort in the last few months, “I Will Be There” by Sela.

Herman will be missed by his wife Yke (also called Kim), his children Agnes (Dave), Mark (Hannah), Wes (Shalene), Carolyn, Kevin (Adena), and David, and his grandchildren Connor, Gideon, Shannon, Ethan, Annika, Fraser, Xavier, Olivia, Joel, Hudson, Malcolm, Abigail, and Nathan. He will also be missed by his siblings Albertje, Pieter, Ina, Hans, Geesje and Roelof, and many nieces and nephews and in-laws. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Tabitha and his brothers Henk and Fokko.

All are invited to attend visitation at the Elora Canadian Reformed Church from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM on Thursday, March 23rd and the funeral service which will also be held at the church on Friday, March 24th at 11AM. The service will be followed by his burial at Elora Municipal Cemetery. Please join the family for refreshments at the church afterward. Donations in Herman’s memory can be made to Canadian Reformed World Relief Fund (crwrf.ca).

My hope for the future is certain, I know.

You stand by me Jesus; You never let go.

When heaven awaits me I kneel at Your throne.

You welcome me Jesus, You take me home.
